El Crystal Palace ha logrado eliminar al Millwall en la quinta ronda de la FA Cup (3-1), pero el partido ha podido acabar en tragedia. A los ocho minutos del pitido inicial, el delantero del Crystal Palace Jean-Philippe Mateta buscaba un balón en largo al espacio. Al borde del área, el guardameta del Millwall ha salido de su portería para resolver la jugada, pero en lugar de golpear el balón, ha propiciado una patada en el aire en el rostro del atacante francés.
Mateta abandonando el terreno de juego en camilla
Tras la escalofriante patada, Mateta cayó al suelo fulminado. Las asistencias médicas entraron al terreno de juego rápidamente y se llevaron en camilla al futbolista del Palace con una máscara de oxígeno en su rostro. Por otro lado, el arquero recibió la tarjeta roja al instante.
