Ministro de Hacienda de Petro anunció que ya está vigente el nuevo salario mínimo en Colombia: “Feliz Año Vital”

Minister of Labor Antonio Sanguino took to his social media to celebrate the arrival of 2026, affirming that as of January 1, 2026, the new vital minimum salary of 2 million pesos will come into effect, a measure decreed by President Gustavo Petro alongside the heads of the Labor and Finance ministries.
Antonio Sanguino explained that this increase stimulates the consumption of essential goods for at least 2,400,000 families who earn the minimum wage, representing a monthly increase of 323,134 pesos per household.

“The change is called VITAL SALARY! Starting today, January 1, 2026, the increase to the vital minimum salary of 2 million pesos stimulates the demand for essential consumer goods for these families (sic),” he stated.
The minister emphasized that this enhanced purchasing power will benefit various productive sectors: “Farmers across the country, footwear producers in Bucaramanga, textile manufacturers in Medellín or clothing in cities, producers of school supplies, as well as small and medium-sized businesses, now have an aggregate demand of 800 billion pesos each month to boost their production,” Sanguino noted.
