The Governor’s Office reiterated that all decisions are made in strict respect for the foreign policy defined by the National Government, avoiding speculation, misinformation, and any message that could incite panic among citizens.
According to the report from the authorities, there is currently no massive migration flow in the department of Santander. Nevertheless, institutional capacities for monitoring public order and humanitarian assistance remain active should any international developments generate collateral effects in the region.
In addition, preventive support for public demonstrations is underway, aiming to guarantee the constitutional right to peaceful protest, civic coexistence, and the safety of all residents.
The PMU has closely monitored municipalities, especially those where public demonstrations related to the situation in Venezuela have occurred or are anticipated:
- Málaga: A public demonstration in support of the situation was registered, with approximately 15 participants. The event ended without incidents or disturbances to public order.
- Bucaramanga: Anticipated demonstrations both in support of and against the situation at the Venezuelan Consulate and in the Children’s Park, as well as group motorcycle rides. In response to this situation, active coordination remains in place between the Bucaramanga Metropolitan Police (MEBUC) and the Mayor’s Office.
- Barrancabermeja: A demonstration by the migrant population is projected to take place in the Parque de la Vida, which will be accompanied preventively by authorities.
Additionally, the Governor’s Office has reported an increase in surveillance at transportation terminals and strategic corridors in the department, as a preventive measure against possible unusual movements of people.
A central message from the regional administration is that the priority is to protect the life, peace, and rights of all Santander residents, as well as to provide humanitarian assistance whenever necessary, without any distinction.
In this regard, the Governor’s Office has made a strong appeal to avoid any form of stigmatization against the migrant population, emphasizing that solidarity, respect, and responsible information are essential in times of regional tension.
At the national level, the Government of Colombia reported that, through the Unified Command Post established in Cúcuta, permanent monitoring of the regional situation deriving from events in Venezuela is ongoing. This PMU has identified migratory, humanitarian, security, peace, and diplomatic challenges, especially along a border that spans over 2,200 kilometers.
Among the measures adopted, a yellow alert for the healthcare network in the border region stands out, along with the enhancement of technological tools for real-time migration tracking, and the preparation of the institutional network to ensure access to healthcare rights without discrimination.
Regarding security, the National Government confirmed that over 30,000 members of the Public Force are deployed along the border with Venezuela, prioritizing critical areas such as Catatumbo, where illegal economies and armed groups converge.
The Governor’s Office of Santander reiterated that the department is prepared, coordinated, and acting with humanity and institutional responsibility in light of the international situation. The preventive PMU will ensure ongoing communication with the National Government and allow for timely adjustments to measures based on the evolution of events.
Finally, departmental authorities invited citizens to seek information solely from official channels and to refrain from spreading rumors or unverified information, reminding them that calm, solidarity, and institutional coordination are key to navigating periods of regional uncertainty.
