Three months after the tragic demise of María José Ardila, new testimonies in the investigation regarding the Sagsa Bar case in Cali have unveiled critical insights into the alleged negligence of the venue and the series of events that led to the unfortunate death of the young mother, who was only 23.
The incident transpired on October 25, 2025, when Ardila agreed to take part in an extreme drinking challenge orchestrated by the bar. The competition offered a prize of $1,500,000 to anyone who could complete a series of rapid alcohol consumption tasks.

Nicolle Cañas, a friend and direct witness, recounted that the entrance system distinguished between the general public and those attempting to take on the challenge, with wristbands costing $40,000 and $50,000, respectively.
Cañas described on the show Séptimo Día the details of the challenge, which required participants to consume large quantities of alcohol in very short timeframes. The tests included chugging a “double cucaracho” in five seconds, three shots in the same duration, a beer in one gulp, a bottle of aguardiente in thirteen seconds, and eight shots of assorted liquors through a straw.
The witness noted that, seeing the intensity of the challenge, Ardila tried to hydrate herself. “María José wanted to drink water during the challenges, but they never allowed it; they insisted she could only consume the alcohol as part of the challenge,” Cañas shared on the program.
Ardila began exhibiting signs of physical distress halfway through the challenge. Cañas remembered that “she couldn’t stand on her own anymore; she looked very unwell,” prompting them to seat her in a chair.
Moments later, the condition worsened: “We saw that her mouth was full of food. I tried to open her mouth, but María José’s jaw was extremely rigid,” the friend recounted.
