La selección Colombia “está para llegar hasta el último día del Mundial”, según Néstor Lorenzo
Néstor Lorenzo announced in Barranquilla that the Colombian national team aims to “go all the way to the last day of the 2026 World Cup,” highlighting the team’s ambition as they prepare for the tournament set to begin in June and continue into July.
The team led by Luis Díaz and James Rodríguez has set a primary objective for the next World Cup, which is to surpass the quarter-finals, a stage they reached in Brazil 2014, marking the nation’s best historical performance.

These statements align with the change in mindset requested by the president of the Colombian Football Federation, Ramón Jesurún, prior to Colombia’s participation in the Copa América USA 2024.
Jesurún urged the Colombian National Team to adopt a “championship mindset” in preparation for the 2026 World Cup during the inauguration of the High Performance Accommodation Center in Barranquilla, held on February 24. The official emphasized, “We want to be champions; I don’t know if it’s of a World Cup because that’s very difficult, but we are at least trying,” highlighting the federation’s ambition in its preparations.
Both the Colombian leader and FIFA President Gianni Infantino conveyed messages of support and confidence regarding the challenge presented by the upcoming World Cup, especially considering the social and security challenges facing Mexico, one of the host nations.
“This is a message to tell our athletes that we believe in them,” declared Jesurún during the presentation, while Infantino highlighted the country’s passion for football, stating: “Football is something magical; it’s passion, it’s love; this country has a lot of love for football.”
