Arremetida de las Fuerzas Militares contra la seguridad de ‘Iván Mordisco’, van 10 disidentes neutralizados

Before the end of 2025, Defense Minister Pedro Sánchez announced that the national government had abandoned hopes for peace with armed groups.

For this reason, Sánchez indicated that the final eight months of Petro’s government would be devoted to launching an offensive against criminal structures that have distanced themselves from peace talks, such as the ELN and FARC dissidents.

In fact, it was Minister Pedro Sánchez who announced via his X account that 2026 began with a joint offensive against the security ring of ‘Iván Mordisco’, the leader of the Central General Staff.

“There is no place where those causing so much harm to the country can hide. The best thing alias Mordisco can do is demobilize,” wrote Minister Pedro Sánchez, revealing that since January 1, uniformed officers have been present in the Caquetá River area, where the commander of the Central General Staff is believed to be hiding.

“Our security forces are advancing in an offensive operation against narcotrafficker alias Mordisco, who recruits minors and is responsible for the death of indigenous children from the most vulnerable communities in the Amazon.”

Regarding the results, Sánchez announced that following operations conducted by the National Army, Air Force, Navy, and National Police, 10 dissidents have been neutralized, along with confiscation of war supplies and guerrilla camping equipment.

In terms of neutralizations, four have been captured, three neutralized, and three minors have been rescued, whose rights will be restored.

“Each strike helps protect the minors that these groups use for violence. It also contributes to reducing terrorist capacity and cutting illegal routes in the Amazon. To those who still wield arms against the Colombian people, the call is clear and constant: abandon violence and surrender. Persisting in war only brings pain to your own family,” the minister emphasized.

It is important to note that authorities are offering up to 5 billion pesos for information that would lead to the capture or neutralization of ‘Iván Mordisco’, making him the criminal with the highest reward currently.

Minister Sánchez clarified that the monetary reward reflects the fact that the commander of the dissidents is currently regarded as one of the country’s foremost drug traffickers, moving away from the role of a conventional guerrilla.

Additionally, Sánchez assured that, with five months remaining until the presidential and congressional elections in Colombia, the Armed Forces will guarantee the protection of the entire civilian population.

“Just as we say that the sun will rise tomorrow, there will be elections next year,” was the minister of Defense’s concluding statement as 2025 ended.

Sánchez reaffirmed this promise at the beginning of 2026, asserting that his goal will be to improve security in prioritized areas and ensure safe and democratic elections, and indicated that the Armed Forces and Police will be fully coordinated and deployed nationwide to protect citizens, candidates, and state institutions.

He also emphasized the importance of international cooperation in the fight against transnational crime, mentioning that in 2025, 60% of drug seizures overseas were achieved thanks to Colombian intelligence, highlighting the capture of Christian Eduardo Pastor, alias Gato Celis, in Cali, who was wanted for serious crimes in Ecuador.
