El aeropuerto Olaya Herrera de Medellín amanece con restricciones en los vuelos por baja visibilidad

Early on Friday, December 5, the Olaya Herrera Airport in Medellin implemented operational restrictions due to low visibility conditions.
According to the airport’s official X account, the weather restriction affects both departures and arrivals starting at 6:48 a.m.

The operation is experiencing disruptions with seven flights affected: five departures and two arrivals delayed.
Authorities recommended passengers to contact their airlines and check the status of their flights through each company’s website or the airport’s site.
As of 8:00 a.m., the visibility conditions have not improved, thus the restrictions for air activities at Olaya Herrera Airport continue.
Currently, one departure has been reported canceled, along with eleven delays for departing flights, and one arrival canceled with nine flights delayed.
The restrictions at Olaya Herrera Airport will remain until weather conditions improve visibility and it is safe to resume take-offs and landings without limitations.
By 8:30 a.m., the airport announced that the weather conditions had improved and flight operations were reactivated.
Authorities recommended checking with airlines for the specific status of each flight, given the updated report of impacts.
Due to the incidents, two departures were recorded as canceled and ten delayed, while there was one flight canceled and nine delayed arrivals.
Avianca completed the software update on its Airbus A320 fleet on Tuesday, December 2.
According to the official report, a total of 42,939 passengers were affected by modifications or cancellations in 293 flights, both domestic and international, during this process.
All 124 aircraft of the A320 family under the European manufacturer’s directive now have the new software installed.
More than 2,500 technicians participated in the execution of these tasks, which caused adjustments in the flight schedule during the intervention.
The company implemented a special plan to mitigate the impact on users, offering rebookings, refunds, and date changes at no extra cost for travelers.
After completing the technical process, Avianca announced the reactivation of its sales channels and the normalization of its commercial schedule.
Avianca stated that reservations for flights operated starting Thursday, December 4, are now available to the public.
The airline thanked authorities and the aviation sector for the operational support provided and extended recognition to customers for their understanding during the contingency.
