This week saw a new chapter in the ongoing debate regarding Cristiano Ronaldo’s place in football history, coinciding with the end of a challenging phase in the forward’s career in Saudi Arabia.

His return to Al Nassr, confirmed following a protest related to delayed salary payments, comes at a time when his legacy continues to spark comparisons and discussions, particularly after Fabio Capello’s comments ranking him below Messi, Maradona, and Ronaldo Nazário.

The discourse over the striker’s sports legacy gained international attention due to Fabio Capello’s remarks. In an interview on the Egyptian channel ON Sport’s program Hat-Trick, he stated: “Cristiano is an excellent goalscorer and an incredible athlete, but he lacks the genius of Messi, Maradona, or Ronaldo Nazário.”

According to Capello, Ronaldo lacks that distinctive spark that prevents him from being on par with the other three. “That genius possessed by the others is missing in Cristiano. You can’t compare him with those three,” the coach asserted.

On the club front, Ronaldo remained in the spotlight off the field amid intense negotiations. The management of Al Nassr fulfilled all outstanding salary payments to employees and club associates, allowing Ronaldo’s return to the team dynamics, as reported by A BOLA.

The return to training has been finalized, although the 40-year-old Portuguese player will not be available for the upcoming Asian Champions League match against Arkadag in Turkmenistan. His return to official competition is set for Saturday in the Saudi Pro League against Al Fateh.

The conflict not only involved discrepancies between the top Saudi clubs and the Public Investment Fund (PIF). According to A BOLA, Ronaldo’s protest also addressed the delay in workers’ wages, demonstrating solidarity that was key to resolving the situation.

“The captain was also fighting for the dignity of those who work daily in the shadow of the giant in Riyadh,” the media stated. Furthermore, the resolution of the case allowed Portuguese executives José Semedo and Simão Coutinho to regain their roles, which had been withdrawn since late December, reinforcing Ronaldo’s influence within the club.
