As the presidential elections draw nearer, various political figures share their opinions and, at times, express critiques towards some candidates vying for the presidency of the Republic. This environment reflects a climate of public debate where proposals, backgrounds, and positions of those seeking to lead the country are analyzed.

In this context, Senate candidate and former prosecutor Angélica Monsalve took to her X account to question those who support presidential hopeful Abelardo de La Espriella. Monsalve stated, “They resemble those who defended Hugo Chávez,” distancing herself and delivering a direct critique to the lawyer’s followers.

The Senate candidate and former prosecutor Angélica Monsalve posted a series of accusations on her X account against those supporting Abelardo de La Espriella’s presidential candidacy. According to Monsalve, there is a similarity between these supporters and those who previously backed Hugo Chávez in Venezuela.

The former prosecutor labeled De La Espriella as a “fraud” and an “unprincipled lawyer,” accusing him of allegedly defending questionable causes, including representing figures linked to Nicolás Maduro’s regime and Alex Saab, whom she blamed for Venezuela’s crisis.

“Those who defend @DELAESPRIELLAE in Colombia are very similar to those who supported Hugo Chávez in Venezuela, portraying him as a messiah who will save the poor. It is known that he is a fraud, a charlatan. An unscrupulous lawyer who made a fortune defending bad causes, even labeled as a defender of dictator Maduro and Alex Saab, the ones who have brought Venezuela into deep poverty and a state of terror and arbitrariness,” wrote the candidate aiming for a seat in the next Congress period via a message on her X account.

Monsalve concluded her message warning about the potential consequences for Colombia if De La Espriella’s candidacy is not rejected. According to the former prosecutor, the nation might face scenarios similar to those experienced in Venezuela if a distance isn’t taken from the presidential hopeful.

Furthermore, she used strong language to question De La Espriella’s intentions, linking him, allegedly, to harmful actions against the nation.

“That is exactly what awaits our country if we do not reflect on expelling this clown from his aspiration, which is far from achieving anything great for the nation. Anyone will be better than that hyena, who wants to devour Colombia, just like they devoured DMG and our neighboring country,” concluded the former prosecutor.

Angélica Monsalve’s comment did not go unnoticed and generated reactions on the social network. User @EDUARDOCASMED responded directly to the critiques, noting that Abelardo de La Espriella leads in the polls and questioning Monsalve’s stance, accusing her of supporting a group with a history of corruption.

“The most bitter thing for you is that ADLE is ahead in the polls. It’s ironic that the little ink-slinger spews so many fallacies while she supports and is with the most corrupt and criminal group in the history of the country… the joke is on itself,” the user responded to the former prosecutor’s post.

Angélica Monsalve did not leave the comment unanswered and replied to the user, reiterating the comparison with Hugo Chávez’s followers.

Monsalve emphasized the parallels between those supporting De La Espriella and the defenders of the Venezuelan former president, mentioning the dire conditions many of them currently find themselves in.

“Eduardo, you remind me so much of the chavistas who defended Chávez, and who today are poor, begging on the street, and regretful,” wrote the Senate candidate in her response to the X user.
