A three-year-old girl was injured by a gunshot during New Year’s celebrations in Santo Tomás, Atlántico. The incident occurred in the early hours of January 1, 2026, and the severity of her injury necessitated her transfer to the Santo Tomás Municipal Hospital.

According to initial reports from local media, authorities have initiated investigative actions to clarify the case, which has left a family unable to partake in the customary celebrations of the season and raised concerns among residents of the area.

According to data from the Atlántico Police Department published by El Heraldo, the incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. at a home located on Calle 6 # 9-82, in the La Granada neighborhood, where several people were gathering to celebrate New Year’s.

Likewise, the report indicated that the minor was on the terrace of her home with several relatives when, suddenly, she began to cry and scream.

Upon checking her condition, family members found an injury on one of her arms, apparently caused by a stray bullet, presumably fired into the air by someone in the area during the New Year celebrations. This is still a hypothesis which will be confirmed or disproved by the authorities.

The victim was taken immediately to a medical center. According to the initial report consulted by El Heraldo, her condition is stable and she remains under observation as medical studies and recommendations for her recovery are determined.

Given the seriousness of the case, the National Police, through the Atlántico Police Department, are conducting investigative activities to establish the exact circumstances of the event and identify potential perpetrators of this brutal act that could have resulted in a tragedy.

Preliminary information indicates that the projectile may be the result of celebratory gunfire by third parties, a recurring practice in the region during festive occasions that has led to multiple injuries.

Due to this situation, the institution made a call to the public to avoid the irresponsible use of firearms, especially during celebrations, to prevent a joyful day from ending in tragedy.

Additionally, authorities extended an invitation to anyone with useful information regarding the facts. Individuals can contact the emergency line 123 or reach out to the nearest quadrant patrol, which will ensure complete confidentiality.

Such situations heighten concerns about the dangers of firearm use and stray bullets during festivities. The community noted the necessity of enhancing preventive measures to protect the population, especially vulnerable groups like children, the elderly, and women.

A shooting incident in Briceño, a municipality in Northern Antioquia, resulted in the death of a young man and left a delivery person injured on the night of Sunday, December 28.

Authorities reported that the fatal victim was identified as Norvey de Jesús Vera, 24, who died on the scene after being shot. In the same incident, a 22-year-old delivery person was injured by a stray bullet while making a delivery and was immediately taken for medical attention.

According to preliminary data cited by local media Mioriente, the attackers were two men on a motorcycle who fired the shots and fled the scene afterward.
