The Swedish company Saab, known for manufacturing Gripen fighter jets, has firmly denied any involvement from Colombia’s First Lady, Verónica Alcocer, or private intermediaries in the recent negotiation for the acquisition of 17 aircraft by the Colombian state, a contract valued at $16.5 trillion.

During the opening of Expodefensa 2025, the company defended the transparency and ethics of the process, which spanned the last three administrations, emphasizing that communication remained strictly between official representatives of both countries.

Pierre Farkas, CEO of Saab Colombia, explained to the media that the only documented interaction with the Presidency was a protocol meeting held on April 2, which included President Gustavo Petro, the ambassador, and several ministers.

Farkas stressed that the negotiation was conducted under a rigorous technical framework, with teams for financial, operational, and industrial evaluations, overseen by Colombian and Swedish authorities.

He elaborated, “The First Lady has never been part of this process, nor have any of the previous First Ladies,” reiterating, “I want to be very clear before all the media present: the First Lady has never been involved in the process, at any point in time.”
