Tribunal condenó a Salvatore Mancuso por 117 crímenes contra comunidades wayúu en La Guajira

The Justice and Peace Chamber of the Superior Court of Barranquilla has issued a conviction against Salvatore Mancuso Gómez, a former paramilitary leader, after confirming his involvement in 117 crimes perpetrated against the wayúu population and other groups in the department of La Guajira.
This ruling was based on the evidence and arguments presented by the Prosecutor’s Office, which successfully proved Mancuso’s involvement, alongside other leaders, in criminal activities carried out between 2002 and 2006.

The investigation revealed that members of the wayúu Counterinsurgency Front, a unit connected to the North Bloc of the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (AUC), committed homicides, enforced disappearances, displacements, acts of gender-based violence, and other serious crimes against indigenous residents and rural communities.
According to the ruling, these actions were in accordance with directives issued by Mancuso Gómez himself, who led the armed expansion into various areas of the Guajira territory.
