Venganza en San Isidro: un sicario mató a un jubilado tras el asesinato de un miembro de la “Banda del Millón”
Carlos Alberto Sandoval, a 70-year-old retiree, was shot dead by gunmen with a bullet to the head on Wednesday afternoon in Villa La Cava, San Isidro. The murder occurred at the same corner where, 48 hours earlier, several shooters killed Martín Gaitano, a 19-year-old member of “La Banda del Millón”, the organization behind the murder of businessman Jorge de Marco and a series of violent home invasions in the northern area that included victims like Baby Etchecopar.
Sandoval was shot from a Peugeot 208. It is believed the shots were not intended for him: during the attack, an 18-year-old received a bullet to his right leg and is currently hospitalized in stable condition. The obvious hypothesis is that this was a revenge for Gaitano carried out by members of his own gang. In connection with Sandoval’s murder, the San Isidro Departmental Police arrested five suspects, including the alleged shooter.
The Peugeot 208, found five blocks from the crime scene, was the car Gaitano used.
Last Monday, the 19-year-old was shot in the head just meters from the corner of América and Intendente Neyer, on the outskirts of Villa La Cava. His identity was revealed after he arrived dead at the San Isidro Hospital, as well as the judicial mark against him: according to the Justice and the Buenos Aires Police, Gaitano was on the run for the murder of De Marco, who was killed last March. Most of the gang’s members are minors, and many of them are already in jail as part of an investigation led by prosecutor Patricio Ferrari and the AMBA Norte I Superintendency of Buenos Aires Police, under the command of Chief Commissioner Lucas Borge.
They flaunted their stolen bundles of dollars on Instagram while partying with Dom Perignon bottles: their leader was caught in a Pacheco nightclub while buying champagne. They are accused of robbing Baby Etchecopar, the brother of the mayor Ramón Lanús, and an 86-year-old retiree from Acassuso who was tortured for hours over a loot of 220 thousand dollars. Many of them were apprehended while shopping for clothes in a well-known mall last spring.
According to official sources, Gaitano was on the run for the gang’s most brutal act: the murder of Jorge De Marco, who was beaten to death during a home invasion in his house in Lomas de San Isidro in March 2024. The criminal was 19 years old and died literally with a gun at his belt. There are several suspects identified in his murder, all with robbery records, suggesting an internal conflict within the gang or an open war with a rival organization.
There are five arrests in connection with this case, including the alleged shooter: all of them are reportedly linked to Gaitano.
